Honors U.S. History
Honors United States History is a challenging course that is meant to be the to prepare students for the rigor of IB classes in their junior and senior year. It is a two semester survey of American history from the time of Reconstruction to the modern day. Solid reading and writing skills, along with a willingness to devote considerable time to homework and study, are necessary to succeed. Emphasis is placed on critical and analytical thinking skills, essay writing, and on interpretation of primary and secondary sources.
This course has several purposes. First and foremost, students will learn post Civil War U.S. History, government, and culture. It will provide students with the skills necessary to analyze, assess, and contribute to historical information. Finally it will help students become historically minded and not to live in the past as Neitzche warned against. Rather, students will be able to see where we have been in order to guide us on the path where we want to go, not only as an individual, but as members of the local, national, and world societies.
